This is my first post for the new year. Winter has set in hard this season, chances of imaging have been almost non-existent the past seven to eight weeks. The weather pattern this winter has been most uncooperative here in Berkshire County along with many parts of the US. I took this photo earlier today with my cell phone showing the observatory looking like an igloo. I am optimistic that a chance to image will come soon, and I will have fresh images to post in the future on the site.
I have used this time to catch up on some house projects and to work on some more interior plans at the observatory. My goal was to have the interior of warm room completed with new tongue and groove board installed on walls and ceiling, but this project has been put on hold due to the weather and some minor modifications to the observatory. The current forecast is calling for another storm coming in this upcoming Tuesday along with arctic cold front moving in as I write this article.
The observatory has been tested this first winter to some high winds and heavy snow loads, I am proud to say it has withstood everything mother nature has thrown at it. I have found it very easy to keep the dome and warm room roof free of snow which is a plus. I am anxiously awaiting some clear skies and free time to capture some first lights from the observatory and to put the gear through its paces. More articles will be coming, I am hoping February brings a change to the weather pattern. Clear Skies to all!
